A TREE was planted to commemorate Willow Primary School becoming an academy.4_001

The school, in Fernside, was placed in special measures by Ofsted in May 2012 and the Marish Academy Trust took over leadership in August.

During the autumn and spring terms, improvements have been made in all areas including, standards of teaching and learning, attendance and leadership.

Attendance, which was well below average, is now two per cent higher than the same time last year. The school has also tried to resolve issues with punctuality with solutions such as a minibus collecting children.

The tree-planting ceremony on Friday was followed by an awards evening hosted by Mayor of Slough Cllr Chrissy Small.

Speaking on Friday, deputy headteacher Nicky Bulpett said: “Today’s hard work of everybody involved with the school community over the last year.”

On February 1, Willow Primary converted to academy status as a sponsored academy within the Marish Academy Trust.
